Logo design in today’s world is totally under rated. People do not understand how important a good logo is and how valuable it is to their business and this is why I am highlighting some of the worst logo designs out there.

By outlining these bad logo designs (in my opinion) I hope to raise awareness of how important it is to have a strong brand & identity for your business or product. If you are after examples of high quality logos be sure to check out some logo design inspiration galleries.

Some pretty bad stuff here. It’s sad that this kind of work is used all over the place. People often try and do/say too much with a logo and often that is where the problems start.

  2. Cristi Says:

The last one is pure genius. I mean really now… The client must have pissed the designer pretty bad for him to come up with that!

  3. Aldo Says:

    I had a better one.

    http://velagym.com/

    Nice.

  4. Anthony Hortin Says:

That second last one, with the Asian writing… That’s just wrong. I mean, what were they thinking!?

  5. MaryBeth Smith Says:

Even though I’m not a designer, I love learning about it. This was a great tutorial in “What NOT to do” for designers. Perhaps also for business owners, “Don’t let this happen to you” or “When to go back to the drawing board.”
The Kids Exchange reminded me of a similar showcase of disastrous domain names. Haven’t checked whether these are real or not, but they certainly are bad:
    http://humour.200ok.com.au/bad-domain-names.html

It’s always great to start the day with a laugh — or at least, being very curious. “What were they thinking?” is always an interesting exercise.

  6. lirmac Says:

Some of those logos are just crying out to be made into t-shirts.

  7. Pete Morley Says:

Ah Papyrus. The logo design equivalent of a frozen throw-in-the-oven pizza. Comic Sans gets all the flack but somehow Papyrus is overlooked.

While we’re throwing the odd phallic logo around, don’t forget the OGC (http://www.ogc.gov.uk/). Look at the logo and tilt your head to the left.

  8. Jesse Rand Says:

Wow, the Arlington Pediatrics logo should’ve landed the designer in jail. Nice collection of late 90’s web looking logos. Sad that so many of these logos are still in circulation.

Thanks for the infinite confidence booster!

  9. Justin Cline Says:

Now, that’s a lot of papyrus!

  10. Robyn Durst Says:

Wow. Give someone a pirated version of Adobe CS3 and see what happens. It’s sad that logos like these are being published as we speak. Well, all the more reason for good designers to get out there and work their magic!

  11. Gemma Says:

You just can’t make this “stuff” up! This is what happens when people with MS Paint decide they can make their own logo! *giggle* Good on them for trying though!

  12. Alyssa Says:

wow… the last one… that looks like a big red butt with something being thrust into it! That’s AWFUL!!

  13. Kelly Says:

Enjoy a few of these corkers guys…

    http://www.estetica-design-for.....sauce.html

  14. Lint Says:

Your logo isn’t really that great mr just creative design

  15. Pete Morley Says:

@Lint – You’re right Jacob’s logo is pretty bad. That’d be why it won “Best of Nation” and “Best of Continent” awards last year.

    Oh, wait…

  16. Kristin Andrews Says:

Haha, I volunteered at a place that requested the use of the Poolservice Company logo on a program booklet. So glad to see that I’m not the only one who thinks this logo should be in this mix. :)

  17. Kári Emil Says:

I actually love the pool service one. I really do. Even if it looks like the frog’s peeing.

  18. nikki Says:

Why does everyone call themselves a “Dr.”?

  19. Jenn Steinhauer Says:

The Web and Graphic Solutions one had me stumped for a minute…. took me a moment to see it was a flying penguin rather than a woman in a lounge chair with a shotgun. And the Poolservice Company one… does that martini suggest the company owners are drunks?

  20. brian Says:

butt plug in the ass gets my vote for worst.

  21. Stewart Feldman Says:

Wow! I’m glad I looked at these before lunch, or my reaction might have ruined my keyboard! Thanks for these…I guess?

  22. Sathish Says:

    LMAO

    @

    kid sex change a.k.a kidsexchange

  23. Antonea Nabors Says:

Nice assortment of really bad logos Jacob. It is a really good reality check for the public to see how important it is to hire a professional designer opposed to the high school teenager next door with a ripped copy of Photoshop. Logos are one of those things where a client can really see the meaning of the phrase ‘What you pay for is what you get.’

  24. Fernanda Carvalho Says:

    That got me dizzy!
Thats what you have to show clients when they ask you to lower the logo creation price.
    The cheaper, the worst.

  25. Fabian Says:

Oh my goodness! The funnest one is “Wisconsin”,Im told it was done by one of the big boys lol

  26. Kyle Says:

looks like some of these fools were using microsoft paint

  27. dax hansen Says:

Amazing. The last one takes the cake to me…

  28. Anujit Roy Says:

    IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!

  29. Nathan Beck Says:

What are you on about Jacob, those logo designs are AMAZING!!!

    lol

  30. Jamez Crinklo Says:

I not speek guud inglish, but I theenk I unnerstand that these is guud logos.

How kan I reech these arteests to kreeate logo for mee?

I wont logo like ‘pool doctor’ (# 4) verry klever logo deezine.

  31. Yura Says:

I don’t think that “Hip Hop for HIV” is that bad. In fact it goes fairly well with the whole hip hop theme.

  32. NeO Says:

I lol at the Kudawara Pharmacy =D

  33. Rich Says:

amazing what passes for a logo! So did it take you long to gather this assortment? Probably not, which is scarey on it’s own

  34. Yalanda Says:

I have got one to add to the list:

    http://www.letsdancecleveland.com.

I don’t know what suprises me most, the horrible crap passed off as logo design, or the clients who actually pay for it.

  35. Adam Says:

Wow…headache after looking through all of them. I use 99designs alot (design contests for logos, website etc) and i always see people entering stuff like this, then i look and they have entered loads of other contests all with the same low quality work, it’s not that they don’t have ideas for them, it’s just that they havent learnt the software they need to to make those ideas look good on a computer, and i always think that why dont they think before they upload it ”Would i use this logo?” or ”Can i imagine this being a companies brand, their identity?” because the answer would probably be no.

Thanks, I love your website by the way. lots of great articles!

  36. bebe Says:

got a nose-bleed while scanning this list of horrible design geniuses!

  37. Ares Says:

Thank you for posting these. I haven’t laughed that hard in months…

  38. mohammed ali Says:

simple is dimple. now a days some clients using these kinds of logos. when some one submitting professional concepts they don’t want to accept it. the want the ugly unprofessional kids drawings. what to do. Iam still remembering the word jacobs told in his earlier posts “Some times we have to educate clients”.

  39. Sanchit Thakur Says:

Its good to look at bad…. & learn.

  40. Sara Says:

Please, no more, I can’t stand looking at these!

…Well, except for the phallic ones, some of those are pretty hilarious.

  41. HH Says:

The phallic logos were incredibly amusing. The sad thing about it is that the client apparently didn’t notice it. Thanks for sharing!

  42. cynthia Says:

Thanks for making my morning! I almost spit out my coffee as I scrolled down the page :-)

  43. Joshua Davis Says:

So when is Microsoft’s bing logo going to be added to this list? http://www.joshuardavis.com/20.....-fail.html

  44. James Says:

Some of these are awesome – thanks for sharing! The sad thing is most of these will have been done by ‘designers’ (especially the high profile ones like Capital One) – I’m not sure what thay says…

  45. Steve Says:

I love the kidsexchange that’s just funny. Do people actually use these?? It’s sos ad! oops forgot to put the spaces in the right places.

  46. Greg Says:

Well, I choose to differ with you on some a few logos, especially the hiphop for hiv logo.

  47. francis Says:

There are some logos that I don’t understand why it’s ugly.

Here’s what I don’t know why the logo is on the list

    capital one bank
    conversant
    oracle palms
    compass bay
    arlington pediatric center

I have a feeling that my design skills aren’t that good enough and I am afraid my work would end up here. Can some of you give some feedback why this is supposed to be here?

    Is the logo not memorable?
    Doesn’t work without colors?

    Thanks in advance!

  48. supremegraphx Says:

all these logos suck…to much going on with them!!
i wonder how they came out when they were actually printed lmao.
all those gradents outerglows and what not will not work with the printer..and im sure half these logos got printed on vinyl or whatever to be hung in front of the store lol
    these suck

or should i say these are WACK!!!

  49. Mars Says:

now, i know what to avoid during logo design

  50. Maria Says:

Regarding the Hip-hop logo I think it’s obvious: it’s called “Hip-hop for HIV”, so it’s of pretty bad taste the use of red splatters all around the logo that imediatelly remind you of blood…

  51. Ray Says:

Ive seen marker comps better then this!

  52. cbuck Says:

I am just glad that none of my designs made it on the list!

  53. Tammy Says:

Some of them look like they’ve been designed by someone who has just discovered WordArt. Bleh. :p

  54. lindsay Says:

Hey, you just stole all those images from yourlogomakesmebarf/dot/com

    Lame.

  55. brandfantom Says:

Yeah there’s alot of bad stuff here. The closest thing to palatable it the Barrett Systems one but the texts needs more oomf.

  56. tek Says:

    “KIDSEXCHANGE” – nice job there

  57. Marcela Gomes Says:

The “best” is the priest lol :D

Well, the last one was created in Brazil, and here the “fazer logo” ( make logo ) can be cruel when you see people selling a “job” about 50 reais ( $25 )…

  58. Anonymous Says:

    I don’t know if it’s just me, but I really think the W3Schools logo is a bit improper… http://www.w3schools.com/

  59. Christian Says:

I never get tired of looking at these. One of the greatest examples for clients not to trust no-name designers.

  60. Barbara Says:

Boy, you sure located some bad ones! I couldn’t even finish looking at all of them. I always get angry when I see a really stupid logo or a really busy one. Worst are the ones you can’t even read. Annoying. You’ve done a great job of pointing out bad design.

  61. Mac Says:

    Simply awesome !

  62. Tatiana Rutledge Says:

They may be questionable in quality… but they can still serve one good purpose for beginning designers (besides the “beware!” function): re-working bad logos is a great way to add some starting samples to an otherwise sparse portfolio. :)

Granted, we may not have all the background and research info necessary on any particular company at first glance — but its (bad) logo is still a pretty good start.

  63. Thomas Eilander Says:

Haha, can’t believe the clinica dentist!!

  64. IDinstructor Says:

there is one that I recently saw that gets the trophy for least compassionate.
Look for “911 restoration” it’s really troublesome.

  65. creativezazz Says:

Where on earth did you find all of these logos? Some of them are so bad I find it hard to believe they are real.

  66. multimedia design Says:

    Yikes.
Obviously, 90% of these were not designed by a professional. I mean a professional professional, not someone who just plays a professional on TV.

  67. My Art Department Says:

I did a logo for a class assignment once that I thought was just the coolest design ever. The teacher was emphatically against it and I didn’t understand why until later when a classmate showed me how phallic it was. The teacher didn’t want to humiliate me (thanks where ever you are!) but I learned a valuable design lesson, none the less.

  68. Sandra Vanhooser Says:

Papyrus is a big no no. At least that was one of the big things I learned in college. What are some other font no no’s?

  69. steven Says:

    My eyes hurt.

  70. Adam Coburn Says:

Oh man this is great! I will have to forward it to my designer.

  71. MJ Says:

Any logo design should work in 1 color (black w/halftone). Those layer effects & MS default fonts are just tacky. Clients love that ugly shit…It makes me lose sleep.

  72. Ikram Mughal Says:

OOOPSSSS, Really a bad stuf all logos just try to make as playing and all logos are discovered just like a Columbas Discovered the America, no Concept relating to any logo. color scheme not matched with logo theory. so overall bad thinking.

  73. WTF!? Says:

HAHAHAHA! Some of these are so baaad! I can’t believe people got paid for these. And that clients actually used them! The Arlington Pedeatric Centre – Totally CLASSIC!!!! And rather disturbing that educated people in USA came up with it and then used it. There’s not even the possible excuse of getting lost in translation like some tag lines in China/Indoa etc. So so SO ironic!

  74. ali Says:

some of the lgos here have followed the clients requiremnets which seems to be ugly and bad. even they are educated but they arey thinkin h that is right.

nad the designer don’t have any choice to they have to just apply their stupid rules.

  75. Alvaro Hernandorena Says:

lot of falic design (sex implications)

  76. mathi Says:

No meaning with designs..like they know just something want match with …

If we know what’s wrong……thenn only we know what’s correct
    thanks for sharing
    mathi

  77. Laurent Jouvin Says:

Some of the logos from the above list have very strange connotations. I can’t believe no one picked up on that during the designing process. It’s funny and sad at the same time.

  78. treesti Says:

the last logo really hurts in the ass

  79. Sasha New Fashion Designer Says:

Hello I came across your website by accident, I was searching the net for Designer Fashion when I came upon your blog, I must say your webpage is very cool I truely think the theme, its astounding!. I’m in a bit of a rush in this instance to totally read your blog but I have favorited it and also subscribed for your RSS feeds. I will be back when I free up some time. Bravo for a great blog.

  80. poji Says:

This is a very subjective matter. Just imagine everybody have their logo something like what you say as good as Nokia, Apple, IBM, or HP. Those designs that you published here were not bad designs. It’s just another way of interpreting things and it make this world a lot more merrier.

  81. C Gonzales Says:

    Martian porn:
    http://www.saddlebackmaine.com/winter/

  82. kerwin Says:

I love the last one it looks like a butt & a you know what go figure. lol

  83. Tom Says:

And relatedly, a story about companies with “Mr.” (or Mister) in their names, all with terrible logos: http://blog.thisisbase.com/2009/06/16/mr-names/

  84. JC Gallegos Says:

It is incredible how some logos are not only ugly to look at, but to some extent offensive. I really get the whole do it yourself and save deal, but if you plan to go somewhere with your business it is better to leave it to someone who at least knows what they are doing. Everyone has heard the phrase “sex sells” while it is probably true, you have to be weigh more subtle with it, it has to hit the subconscious mind not hit you with the innuendo.

  85. Lily Says:

I just couldn’t stop laughing at some of the logos. KIDSEXCHANGE?? It’s so inappropriate but funny! I guess you really need to distinguish each words with different colors or something. I also found a funny article http://www.logocontests.net/bad-logos.html about bad logos in logo contests.

  86. Wilfred Says:

    http://cph.osu.edu/newsletters.....otonia.JPG

  87. Christian Vuong Says:

gonna print this and save it. next time i can show these to my clients when they tells me they know someone who can do a cheaper logo for them…

  88. john Says:

i’m deeply saddened how logo design is not as important as building a skycraper or making a fastest car in the world. how they treat logo a least important in the business as they treat the artist who created for them… logo more often suffers a lot when you see them in the streets… people might say this logo is great, or this logo sucks… how embarrassing for the artist who were paid and the only compliment will get is who made this logo? hard for me to think how logo design is sometimes last in the lists!

  89. Stuart Says:

These are very good especially the brazilian. but has anyone seen the http://www.randywood.co.uk website? the name is one of the funniest when you think about it, but then take a double look at the name. boy that has to be the best disguised penis yet. and it’s a genuine clothing brand too !!

  90. Wolverine Girl Says:

These are all wonderfully horrible, but I was wincing whenever I saw something in an oval. I hate ovals. And feathering, hideously bright gradients, and big butt-ugly bevels. I really enjoyed the phallic ones at the end, especially Compter Doctor’s penismouse and the very last one made me laugh out loud.

You didn’t show one of my all time faves though, it’s a major video store chain here in Australia

    http://www.networkvideo.com.au/

  91. anonimo Says:

    Hahahaha
Essas figuras são ridículas. Tem umas ai que parecem *#$¨%$@#$# !

Quem usaria essas imagens como logotipo de uma empresa ?

  92. shairoo Says:

ahaaaan……….. some said maybe some logos made in MS Paint but I think if your idea and imagination is right ……….. MS paint can also create a satisfactory level logos…….. I think these logos are made by the owners themselves not even by a begginer professional……..

  93. R1soft Says:

I thought this logo created before 1990.

  94. Paul Allen Says:

This is a high-end chefs store with a logo that looks like it’s from a 1975 computer store: http://www.cookswaresonline.com/

  95. free game downloads Says:

great share, great article, very usefull for me…thank

    you

  96. blaike Says:

    that last one was distusting

  97. Gurusol Says:

what should one say about such designers.. but they still exist.. although these are really the worst logos someone could ever see, but still there are few not to be given such a harsh ranking..

  98. Lorraine Says:

I’m going to bookmark this for when I need a good laugh! Priceless.

  99. Rebecca Agra Says:

    OMG!

    o.O

  100. Irene Says:

The kidsexchange just crack me up!

  101. arturo Says:

I am not a graphic designer but I can see that most of the logos are just ackward! I would not like my logo site to end up in a article like this! this my site in spanish http://www.arutos.com/..I would like to hear some feedback from you! Thanks for the article!

  102. nostatic_11 Says:

Interesting that among all these crappy little mom n’ pop shop logos stands monolithic Capital One’s crappy logo. I worked in the company’s creative department when this embarrassing travesty was concocted and everyone, I mean everyone, hated it. But the egomaniacs who run the company thought ripping off Nike and Bank of America would make Capital One seem like a leader. Say what?

  103. kholm Says:

    Here’s a logo you might enjoy: http://bit.ly/epzZrD

  104. whathadiv Says:

The Capital One logo is too aweful. Other than that, so much papyrus and not enough Comic Sans *sigh*.

  105. Michael Says:

Am I the only one who likes the pool doctor one?

  106. Custom Logo Design Says:

Oh my goodness to some of them!

  107. John Cross Says:

these logos looks like a kid played with microsft paint.. :)

  108. Veizman Says:

    Cautionary tale in pictures.

  109. Thaddeus George Says:

HAHA, the last several are hilarious. I was recently in the logo design process myself and was constantly worried about having a horrendous logo. I was fortunate enough to be working with Sydney’s finest graphic design team, DPM Creative Group, but it was a slightly worrisome process! Thanks for the infusion of hilarity into my day!

    Thanks,

    Thaddeus

  110. Teddymv Says:

Are you kidding me about the Hip Hop HIV logo? It’s not even mediocre, it’s actually good.

  111. JP Says:

too funny… hell, ours should be up there too!!

  112. Reh Says:

Good job spotting, collecting and sharing those “cautionary tale” designs. I would love to see an article where you analyze a few of the not so obviously horrid designs and explain why they don’t work and how they can be improved… Great blog and I really liked your youtube videos as well…

  113. Robert Smith Says:

Nothing tops bad design with bad concept though. Check this out: http://www.spermies.net/ – It’s a clothing production company in Portland.

  114. door closer Says:

yes, I agree with you, they are really bad LOGO.

  115. Concurs cosmetice Says:

The “Capital Bank” is not THAT Bad, but there are some amazingly wrong ones in your list, too, lol.

  116. kelly Says:

    Super Scary!

  117. Claire Freshney Says:

I am a web and graphic designer from Manchester and some of these logos actually made me laugh. As I find it so hard to get my head round why some people feel these logo designs are great and designers will look at them and see them as hideous. How can people not tell a good logo from a bad one? Strange!

If you would like to see some good logo designs please visit: My Website

    C Fresh Design

  118. Heather Says:

Wow. I thought logos as bad as these were only found in South Carolina! :P

  119. James Says:

Quite a lot of logos are only up there because they to focussed on the effects and the small details, when the concept of the logo is the most important thing. Most are trying ‘too hard’ to pull of a professionally-looking logo when they should go back, take out the fine details, take out the complicated effects, and keep the logo simple, (but in some cases not too simple as it has to be eye-catching).

  120. thinkpot Says:

agree with alyssa, the last logo is ridiculously vulgar..

  121. Bush_Tag Says:

Some of the logos are pretty awkward but still people have liked them enough to use them. Many of those hardly made any sense to me im not a graphic designer though, but if a layman can’t interpret them easily what’s the use then??

  122. website design raleigh nc Says:

Wow, these are terrible. I don’t think Capital One really belongs on the list though. I mean, yes, as far as massive Fortune 100 companies go, that logo is pretty weak, but it’s a different league than these other entries.

  123. brian Says:

wow some of these logos are really horrific, off topic, offensive and unnecessary! tell me they weren’t professional designers!

  124. Tim Says:

OMG, these are unbelievably funny…. in a sad way. LOL!

  125. Jeuk Says:

LOL check this one out http://www.debruijn-groep.nl/default.asp?pagina=51
    also a big logo fail.

  126. Brian Says:

Some of those designs are redic… I cannot believe pay for something like that and put it up as a logo!

  127. E-rick Says:

Man, a lot of perverted designers. I see many sexual-explicit references in these logos that are terrible to begin with. When will people learn?(Example: Never put an image of a Catholic priest and children in the same logo/frame) :/

  128. BaseKit Says:

Some great examples here! Unfortunately, badly designed logos are still very much present.

  129. Johnnyh Says:

The ones that really make me sick lately are all the ones with wispy people, you’ve seen them. A circle for a head, pointy arms and legs, either jumping, flying or leaning. To me, those are a cop-out, a lazy or simply bad designer passing off something that’s out there by the thousands as their own.

BTW, making down through all those horrid logos simply to comment had me screaming “MAKE IT STOP!!!”

  130. semanticlayout Says:

I also don’t link those logo, and you can check my logo design here http://www.semanticflow.com/logo-design-portfolio/

  131. Sky Walker Says:

Why is Bank of America logo not here? It is THE UGLIEST logo ever!!!

  132. mindxstudio Says:

Those are really bad logo design.

  133. Nut Says:

Most of these logos are not the work of designers LOL. A designer doesn’t paste from google images… use WORD or PAINT as a designing tool… use 5 typefaces in one ‘logo’… manage to find 4+ colours which CLASH and combine them in a way which confuses the living daylights out of the viewer! :( if only they knew the affect a decent logo will have on their company!

  134. Video Production Says:

Hahaha the last two are so funny.

The people who only want to pay $5 get what they pay for. If they don’t see the long term benefit for having a well designed logo then they probably won’t be in business that long anyway.

My problem is clients telling me they only need this much work before the quote, then expecting much more after, and then they get pissed because they’re getting what they paid for. That’s why I’m trying to get away from individual clients and work b2b where it’s not the person’s own money…. less personal

  135. absolute logo Says:

Wow! Talk about some rancid logos!

  136. CJ Says:

Can anyone suggest logo to my site? —> c3jdesign.co.cc Thank you so much.

  137. tom Says:

Thank you for this – I’m currently in the process of putting together do’s and dont’s of logo design, partly inspired by the dross I’ve seen here!

Unfortunately this is the kind of “design” you will never eradicate. All you can do is educate and hope the button pushers and mouse clickers (they are certainly not designers) will disappear – wishful thinking indeed!

  138. srdjandizajn Says:

Hahaha, some of these are really funny..

Hi what you said in post,it exactly correct.Now-a-days most of the people design logos worst way.Logo designs plays a major role for any business.

  140. cb.ikt Says:

You’re right about the importance of a good corporate design. But I wonder if it is really that important for a small business. Of course, if you’ve got the talent to design a good logo then go for it. But I’d also understand a small local store struggling with sales or income not spending much time and money for a logo designer.

  142. graphicdesigner Says:

I am a web and graphic designer and I can tell you that the designer is not always at fault in creating ugly designs. There are times that I have created something attractive and professional looking and the client will insist on using their own design with ugly graphics, fonts and colors. Unfortunately, it’s the designer that gets a bad rap as it appears to be a reflection of their work, when more often than not they are complying with the client’s requests.

  143. Alicia Skkag Says:

The logos are really disastrous. I am not sure that the client will approve them at all. Honestly speaking for me these sucks. (??????•??)

  147. Theraisa K Says:

I’m sure a lot of these are the result of all those contest and whatchamacallem sites where you basically offer your services for pennies resulting in mass quantities of so called designers slapping together clipart and stolen images from Google. Pity…

  148. Giselle Says:

These are really bad…wow! They are just too busy and too much going on.

  11. Why Does Graphic Design Matter? « Ready Aim Design Says:

[...] Bad design can have the exact opposite effect. A label or advertisement that uses inappropriate fonts, colors or images can immediately turn off a potential buyer and can divert traffic away from a business. Design that looks amateurish and poorly conceived sends the message that a brand is unprofessional and possibly untrustworthy. Whether or not this is an accurate assessment of that business is of little regard; in business as in life perception becomes reality. [...]
